There is whole realm of musical studies: musicology, ethnomusicology, musical semiology that are still on the frontiers of theological research, and our lentitude in assuming them comes close, I fear or feel, to intellectual superficiality.
Would that we could let the Spirit guide us to deepen our quest for precise questions and answers about the meaning of music in our lives and cultures, without avoiding the complexity of both!

Very thought provoking question why is music important? perhaps because its part of our DNA and we respond instinctively because we know it, irrespective of language, combination of notes we have an instinctive feel to it. I imagine that when God creates the environment, humanity he hums/ sings & that imprints on our soul. Its the reason why music transcends race, culture,language, wars, politics we humans were created in music and for music. Hence music has healing powers, has the ability to broker deals where all else fails. Music has the ability to stop wars, has the ability to unite humanity, it reminds us that at the end of the day we are not as different as we may be led to believe, all humanity is one we have the same instinct, created in the image and likeness of God. My greatest wish would be if humanity recognises this.
